As City Manager, Brian Platt is the Chief Executive for an organization with a $2.3 Billion annual operating budget, 4,500 employees, and over half a million residents. He oversees all of the services and activities a city would provide including street maintenance, snow removal, two airports, health services, fire and EMS response, and so much more. Kansas City is becoming a national example of a truly successful city with an all-new highly acclaimed airport; building one of the largest solar arrays in the United States; repaving 1500 miles of city streets in 3 years which is exponentially more than ever before; planting 10,000 new trees over 3 years; an aggressive new approach to snow removal; converting an old hotel into transitional housing for the homeless and building a new low barrier homeless shelter; establishing one of the first right to counsel programs in the country; hosting the NFL draft and the annual SuperBowl championship parade; and being one of 11 U.S. cities to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Brian formerly served as City Manager/Business Administrator for Jersey City, NJ and as the City’s first Chief Innovation Officer, and has more than 11 years of experience in local government management and leadership. Brian previously worked in Management Consulting for McKinsey & Company and as a kindergarten teacher with Teach For America. He completed his Masters in Public Administration at Columbia University.
